Overview

Using feminism and gender theories and methods alongside interdisciplinary methods, you will study the historical, social, and political experiences of gender within and beyond the gender binary. We will work together to understand the complex dynamics of gender and how the intersections of race, ethnicity, sexualities, and economic circumstances affect social inequalities.

Your courses in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Seattle University will challenge you academically, politically, personally and give you the expertise to deal positively and effectively with issues of gender and sexuality facing individuals and society.

Get out of the classroom

When you study women, gender, and sexualities you engage in praxis, which simply means putting your intellect and your expertise to work outside the classroom, the library, and the lab. We offer you plenty of chances to get out there and make change—internships, community engagement, research with faculty, and creative projects.

Faculty in Women and Gender Studies are partners with a wide variety of community-based organizations and nonprofits throughout the Seattle area that seek volunteers to participate in a movement.

We address global and transnational feminist and queer movements, the historical roots of gender-based inequality, hierarchies of knowledge; queer social and political movements, the ethical and theological foundations of gender and human rights, and intersecting oppressive forces of race, sexuality, class, and colonialism.
