The combination of small cohorts and the teacher-practitioner model ensures that students will be successful during and after the program. Students can tailor their program based on what kind of career field they want to enter, including choosing between classes that focus on the scientific side of healthcare and classes that focus on the community wellness aspects of health care.

Learning outcomes

A bachelor of science in Health Sciences prepares students from Rush University to participate in graduate school programs. Some common professions that these students pursue include nursing, physician assistant studies, medical school, public health, social work and biomedical sciences.

What type of work will be done through this curriculum?

The core curriculum for this program includes classes to introduce the variety of health professions to students. Core classes are also about health care ethics, writing professionally, research and statistical methods. Students then can choose among electives that pertain to specific medical sciences and community wellness. At Rush, students in every program are given the skills and education to become leaders in whatever profession they pursue.

You will complete a medical science-based or leadership and community wellness-based curriculum.

The medical sciences concentration will prepare you for graduate health care degree programs that require or suggest a bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite for admission, such as the following:

Allied health programs (e.g., audiology, physician assistant, respiratory care, occupational therapy, physical therapy, cardiovascular perfusion, medical laboratory science)
Biomedical science programs (e.g., cellular biology, physiology, biomedical engineering and pharmacology)
Graduate nursing programs
Medical, dental and pharmacy school

You will also need to submit the following through AHCAS:
Official transcripts from every U.S. college or university attended
International course evaluations for all courses and degrees completed at a college or university outside the United States
Three professional recommendations. References should be current or former academic advisors, professors, managers or supervisors. We will not accept evaluations from coworkers, colleagues, friends or family members.
Personal statement
If your native language is not English, submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores.
Participate in a personal interview with program faculty.
