Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science complete a comprehensive science program with a strong emphasis on upper-level laboratory work and specialized scientific electives. The core sequence covers ecology and evolution, cell biology, general genetics, and experimental biology lab techniques. Compared to the B.A. track, the B.S. degree requires advanced quantitative and laboratory coursework, including Analytical Calculus (MATH 151), Organic Chemistry I with lab (CHEM 351/CHEM 351L), physics, and statistics. B.S. majors select six upper-level electives with the option to integrate direct undergraduate research projects into their degree requirements.

Graduates are prepared to transition directly into technical laboratory settings across biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical companies, government research centers, and clinical facilities. Students who are BIOC (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) majors who wish to also pursue a BIOL B.S. degree may use Core BIOL, CHEM, MATH and PHYS courses from the BIOC major towards the BIOL degree, but MUST take separate electives for the two degrees (ie., no ‘double-dipping for the electives).
