The Russians and Central European studies have made major contributions to the world's literature, arts and sciences. For students who wish to deepen their understanding of this part of the world within a broad framework, San Diego State University's major in Russian and Central European Studies may be an appropriate choice.

The mission is to provide and support the acquisition of linguistic and cultural proficiency in Russian, as well as develop students’ appreciation for diversity through the study of Russia in its European and global contexts. They provide opportunities to study abroad to strengthen students’ language literacy and prepare them for professional careers at home and abroad. Since many students further pursue education in a variety of disciplines from MBA, law, to Slavic Studies, the major prepares them to develop critical and analytical skills and to articulate their arguments eloquently in spoken and written forms.

In keeping with SDSU College of Arts and Letters’ mission, the vision for Russian program calls for students to become culturally sensitive, socially engaged, and globally informed citizens. Finally, they strive to provide outreach service to business, professional communities, and to general public in San Diego area.
