Program Overview
Graduates of the B.S.V.C. Visual Communication - Photojournalism Major at Ohio University earn a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication. The school has been recognized twice as a Program of Excellence by the Ohio Board of Regents, and is a proud component of the Scripps College of Communication recognized by the state as a
Center of Excellence – the only college in the state to receive that distinction. Intensive training is offered in informational graphics and publication design, interactive design, documentary photojournalism for newspapers, magazines and the Internet, and commercial photography.

Successful graduates at Ohio University find employment in photojournalism profession working for print publications including newspapers and magazine as well as online or start their own businesses as freelance visual communicators.Freshman/First-Year Admission
The School of Visual Communication requires an informal interview for admission to the program. During this interview, we would like to learn more about your creative goals and review any examples of creative work you can provide.

- For students participating in the GCSE or IGCSE curricula, they generally expect to see at least 6 passes, graded C or higher. Students who are going on to complete GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS-levels) and/or Advanced Levels (A-levels) may be awarded transfer credit for successfully completed exams.
- For students studying an International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, they generally expect an average of 5 out of 7 on your college-preparatory curriculum. IB Higher Level examinations may also be eligible for transfer credit.

- one lens should have a 24mm or wide focal length (or digital equivalent) with an f/2.8 or faster aperture
- one lens should be a 135mm of longer focal length (or digital equivalent) with an f/2.8 or faster aperture
- zoom lenses with focal length and aperture of f/2.8
- a dedicated electronic flash outfit
- a suitable professional tripod
