The purpose of this Nursing RN-BSN program at University of North Carolina Wilmington is to prepare a professional who possesses the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to practice family-centered, professional nursing in a variety of current and emerging health care delivery systems.


In addition, the Nursing RN-BSN program at University of North Carolina Wilmington is designed to provide a foundation for graduate nursing education. Through interactions with clients--individual persons, families and communities--and other health care professionals, nursing graduates will contribute toward meeting the wide-ranging needs of the region, state, and the larger community. The depth of competencies required in nursing has become much more complex - making a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from UNCW more important than ever.

              Academic Requirements

              You need the following GPA score:

              Required score: 2.5

              Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

              Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

              General Requirements

              • Submit an application to UNCW that includes a section for application to the RN to BSN option
              • Meet criteria for both admission to the UNCW and the RN to BSN program
              • At least 24 credits of transferable college coursework, including: at least 6 credits in college-level English and at least 3 credits in college-level mathematics
              • Additional rules may apply to students under 24—if you are under 24, ask your Enrollment Specialist for details
              • Eligibility to return to the last institution that you attended
              • Graduation from an Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma Registered Nurse program
              • A current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse
              • Minimum grade of C in all required and pre-requisite courses for the major
