Established in 1957, the Department of Nuclear Engineering from University of Tennessee Knoxville is one of the oldest and most prestigious programs in the United States. Nuclear engineering is the engineering discipline that focuses on the application of nuclear and atomic processes for the benefit of mankind and the environment.

UT’s Nuclear Engineering Department offers exceptional opportunities to its students, and our graduates contribute to an important field needed by the United States to maintain its standard of living and its place in the world economy.

Our faculty is internationally recognized for excellence in research and teaching, and our advanced research programs are enhanced by close ties with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Y-12 Nuclear Security Complex, UCOR, at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP), and more than one hundred nuclear related companies located within fifty miles of Knoxville.
