When the internship requirement has been met, candidates are eligible to take the board certification examination in music therapy and begin practice as a clinician.

The curriculum for the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy at University of Miami is built upon the clinical and research paradigm known as Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT). This model utilizes scientific evidence regarding the influence of music on human brain and behavior function to treat neurological, developmental, and medical needs. The NMT approach is becoming increasingly recognized and accepted by the medical community, which helps increase employment for our graduates.

Mission

The mission of the Bachelor of Music degree program in Music Therapy at the Frost School of Music is to prepare students to develop: a) advanced and functional musicianship, b) music therapy clinical knowledge, and c) music therapy clinical skill.

The preparation of students’ academic, professional, and interpersonal therapeutic abilities will satisfy the required standards of practice of an entry level practitioner as required by the American Music Therapy Association. The Frost program seeks to recruit and retain highly qualified students to study and gain entry-level clinical skill for music therapy practice and employment and to prepare them for graduate study.

Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.

If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)

We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher.

The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
