Overview

Students in the Spanish program at University of Miami learn with each course to understand, interpret, and analyze communication patterns and cultural products (new technologies, film, literature, etc.) from the geopolitical positions of the linguistic communities they study.

This learning process also fosters a greater appreciation of the students’ own language, culture, and society. As part of the development of analytical and critical skills, students learn to build coherent arguments orally and in writing; to develop tools for the interpretation of various texts; to perform research and write critical papers; to find and evaluate sources of information; to heighten their sensitivity to the contexts of language, and to appreciate language as art.

Students will also acquire a broad, structured knowledge of the relevant history, literature and culture in the target language. Finally, they will learn to carry out cultural comparisons and to view their own culture with new eyes.

Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.

If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)

We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher.

The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
