The goal of the Ecosystem Science and Policy program from University of Miami is to educate the next generation of environmental leaders.

Educational Objectives

The ECS program provides students with a broad background in environmental issues from a variety of perspectives, along with in-depth education in an area of specialization. The ECS major offers a series of problem-based learning courses, culminating in a capstone course in the senior year. 

Courses emphasize integration of science and policy approaches to real-world environmental issues. This preparation gives students both the theoretical background and technical skills to pursue environmental careers in, teaching and research, as well as for careers in government and private industries concerned with the environment.

General Requirements

  • Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.
  • If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)
  • We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher. 
  • The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
