Overview

The Environmental Studies program offered by Brown University offers two undergraduate degrees: an A.B. in Environmental Studies and a Sc.B. in Environmental Science.

The A.B. and Sc.B. degrees vary primarily in the number of course requirements; the Sc.B. is a more in-depth treatment of a single field.

Both degrees also by requiring students to select one of five tracks of study.

Graduates with B.A. in Environmental Studies from Brown University will:

develop depth in a primary field

make meaningful contributions to environmental scholarship and outreach at local, national and global scales.

find ways to feed a growing human population while maintaining the natural life support system provided by the Earth's ecosystems;

learn to make built environments more efficient as urban areas continue to grow dramatically in size;

meet the challenges posed by rising sea-level and increasing global temperatures.

Personal statement regarding their interests and/or intended areas of study.

We strongly encourage applicants to submit a scanned image of the transcript at the time of application, which can speed processing; however, a final, official transcript will be required of all admitted students who matriculate. Applicants who have attended international institutions must submit transcripts or certified attestations of study, with certified English translations.

Three letters of recommendation by persons well qualified to speak from first-hand knowledge about the applicant's potential for graduate study. All letters should comment on an applicant’s ability to do research and perform in the program’s required coursework.
