About

History

Founded in 1875 by a former slave, Dr. William Hooper Councill, AAMU is a dynamic and progressive institution with a strong commitment to academic excellence.
The serene, intimate campus is situated on “The Hill,” only a short distance from downtown Huntsville, the site of the school’s founding.

Education

The University offers contemporary baccalaureate, master’s, educational specialist and doctoral level degrees to prepare students for careers in the arts, sciences, business, engineering, education, agriculture and technology.

Housing services

Living on campus will be one of the most memorable college experiences you will encounter. On-campus living provides you a place for personal development, community involvement, growth, and knowledge.

To aid in the overall educational experience, our office employs a residential life program which nurtures and engages students in learning outside the classroom.
Our office works diligently to provide quality and comfortable living accommodations, with a plethora of amenities to make your stay as convenient as possible.

Library services

The Joseph F. Drake Memorial Learning Resources Center (LRC) consists of 73,485 square feet of space, can house up to 400,000 volumes, and seat well over 1,000 patrons thanks in part to the renovation of the facility in 2003.
The LRC offers a variety of services that enhance student learning and faculty participation such as Interlibrary Loan, Learning Commons, E-Books, electronic and physical scholarly journals, academic databases, Information Literacy classes, Archival research, and much, much more.

Our campus is hilly and the university campus tours are thorough (so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.)

Each tour is led by members of the University Student Ambassador Organization who are happy to answer questions and provide insight to the university.

This incredible facility offers Alabama A&M students, employees, alumni, and the greater Huntsville community the best opportunities for recreation and fitness in the area. With over 78,000 square feet, we offer something for everyone at affordable rates.

The administration and staff of the Department of Athletics espouses a student-centered philosophy, which ranks academic achievement as the number one priority for its student-athletes

Toward this end, the Department of Athletics is committed to providing a comprehensive and inclusive intercollegiate and intramural athletics program.
