Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke.Thanks to support from the Dukes and to an able, relatively young, ambitious and largely native faculty recruited from the new graduate schools at Johns Hopkins, Columbia and other northern universities, Trinity College had developed by World War I into one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the South.
The Duke University Career Center contributes to this community of learning by engaging students and alumni in an ongoing examination and pursuit of what is meaningful and valuable in their lives. The Career Center provides opportunities for individuals to explore the intersection of their education, values, goals, skills and experiences in order to identify and realize their aspirations.

Residence halls and apartments are available for Duke students, from first-years to graduate students.
Duke Libraries comprises six libraries across East and West Campus, including the Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library (now under renovation), and the separately administered libraries serving the schools of business, divinity, law and medicine.
Many technology services at Duke University are supported by Duke's central IT organization, the Office of Information Technology.
Duke Medicine integrates patient care with the clinical, training and research programs of the Duke University Health System, Duke University School of Medicine and Duke University School of Nursing.

Duke Athletics, part of the Atlantic Coast Conference, fields teams in 26 NCAA Division I varsity sports. The Blue Devils have won national championships in men’s basketball, lacrosse and soccer, and women’s golf and tennis. The Duke Sports Hall of Fame, in the Schwartz-Butters Athletic Center next to Cameron Indoor Stadium, is open to the public.
