About

In Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, we advance the design of vital places and cultivate a commitment to the earth and its inhabitants. We reflect upon where we have been and where we are now to envision a healthier, more resilient future.

Overview

Overview

At the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, to design is to experience, imagine, discover, uncover, and recover. We learn to design with sensitivity, listening to others and acknowledging our limitations. Around the globe and in our backyard, we address challenges that demand an inclusive and often collaborative approach.

Through learning, discovery, and engagement, our efforts extend to urban green infrastructure, large-scale water systems, agricultural landscapes, cultural and historic sites, human and ecosystem health, and other complex issues that require thoughtful and innovative design approaches.

We offer two accredited professional degrees – a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) and a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) – as well as a Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture and a new Master of Sustainable Urban Design (MSUD).

Through design education and research, we turn bright minds into problem-solving powerhouses – young people who make profound and lasting contributions to society and the environment.

Many of our graduates become principals in leading design firms; others work in urban parks districts, community development, government and non-profit agencies, education, and the arts. For some, study of landscape architecture leads to further research and careers in related fields such as planning, architecture, and heritage management.

We work hard to foster an environment where people feel comfortable, welcome, and heard. Our students and faculty look to each other for ideas and support and rely on each other to grow and change.
