Overview
Our students from the Nursing program offered by Temple University begin practice as caring, competent nursing professionals who are prepared to support individuals, families and communities in reaching their health goals—whether that means recovering from a stroke or heart attack, managing chronic conditions like diabetes or asthma, or increasing neighborhood access to healthy food.
Whether you pursue a career in bedside nursing or community health, an understanding of the full scope of nursing practice will guide you as you aspire to become an informed health advocate, a nurse leader, a valued team member and an expert nurse clinician.
What sets apart our Bachelor of Science in Nursing?
- Early opportunities to build experience: Temple’s BSN program is an eight-semester program with freshman admission. Starting your first semester, you will take nursing courses taught by nursing faculty. In the simulation lab you will be exposed to real-life situations in a supportive, safe and supervised environment that allows you to refine the skills you need to provide high-quality nursing care. In the second year of the program, learning sites expand to include community and hospital settings, where complexity and challenge increase as you gain knowledge and skill.
- A dynamic urban environment: Temple University is located in North Philadelphia and provides unique opportunities to experience nursing in an urban setting. The Department of Nursing partners with some of the best healthcare facilities in Philadelphia and a growing number of community organizations, including schools, faith-based organizations, senior centers and day programs serving vulnerable populations.
- NCLEX Success: After graduation from a BSN program, you must earn a passing score on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) before you receive your nursing license and begin to practice nursing. The four-year pass rate (2014–2017) for our BSN graduates who are first-time NCLEX test takers is 92.5%.
