Overview

The Gender and Women's Studies - Chicana and Latina Studies Emphasis from University of Arizona is an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts that works to contest historical, ongoing and pervasive oppression based on gender, race, sexuality, class, ability and citizenship. Students can opt for an emphasis in Chicana and Latina Studies, a course of study that works with the Gender and Women's Studies department's prestigious Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW). Established in 1979, SIROW develops research-action projects of importance to women in the Southwestern U.S. and the Mexico-U.S. border regions. The Gender and Women's Studies department, founded in 1975 and led by a renowned faculty, stands at the forefront of feminist research and curriculum.
