Overview

The Religious Studies Certificate at California State University Long Beach is organized into four areas of study:

Religious Texts examines texts from the world’s religious traditions and their historical and cultural contexts.

Religious Traditions (Group A) includes coursework in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Religious Traditions (Group B), coursework in Buddhism, the religions of Japan, the religions of South Asia, the religions of Southeast Asia, and indigenous religions.

The fourth area of study is Religion in the Contemporary World.

What do you do with a degree in Religious Studies?

Almost anything! Religious Studies is one of the four best majors to help you score high on the L.S.A.T. (Law School Admissions Test). Our students go on to other advanced degrees, become religious professionals, secondary and higher education teachers, librarians, educational entrepreneurs, managers or aid-workers in NGOs, writers or performance artists, business managers, and the like. All first-year student applicants must submit the following items:

File a CSULB application through Cal State Apply by the deadline

Have earned a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA or "B'" grade according to the CSULB GPA scale.

Fulfil CSULB's English Language Requirement

Have completed at least 1 year of high school mathematics. Applicants to STEM majors must have at least 3 years of high school mathematics.

Provide scores for at least 5 subjects completed. In addition, please provide scores for at least 2 "A/AS" subjects completed.
