Overview
The Bachelor’s Degree in Asian American Studies at California State University Long Beach is designed to offer students an opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the complexities of Asian American experiences and to prepare them to function in a multiethnic society and multicultural world.
Key Facts
The communication and critical analysis skills which are stressed in the program will be instrumental to students pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees in “traditional” disciplines, including History, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, and Literature; in interdisciplinary programs like Ethnic Studies and Women’s Studies; and in professional fields such as Law, Business Administration, and Social Work.
The program’s curriculum and broad liberal arts perspectives likewise will prepare students for employment in several professions, including education, public policy, community development, media, social services, and human resources.

General requirements
- Complete each of the courses in the comprehensive pattern of college preparatory subject requirements with a grade of C or higher prior to high school graduation.
- Graduate from high school by the end of the Spring term prior to Fall enrollment.
- All transcripts from all institutions attended
- SAT/ACT scores
Graduates of California high schools and other California residents:
- 2.5 GPA or greater in college preparatory subjects, AND 3,200 minimum “CSULB Index” to be considered, for non-STEM major
- a 3,600 minimum “STEM Index” for STEM majors. (Be aware this is higher than the minimum for CSU system-wide eligibility.)
Other non-California residents:
- 3.0 GPA or greater in college preparatory subjects, AND 3,500 minimum “CSULB Index” to be considered, for non-STEM major
- a 3,600 minimum “STEM Index” for STEM majors.
