Overview

The BFA Programme at California State University Long Beach has two tracks, Illustration and Animation. Students are able to take courses in both tracks. Some examples are: editorial work for magazines and newspapers, comics and graphic novels, textiles/clothing and the home and gift market, technical and biomedical illustration, entertainment (storyboards and visual development) and advertising. Students will focus on building their skills in drawing, painting and conceptualizing to create strong work geared towards their area of interest using their particular strengths.

Mission of the School of Art

The School of Art is dedicated to its mission of creating a comprehensive art school experience within the context of a large publicly funded state university. At the undergraduate level, they provide a diverse population of aspiring artists and art scholars with access to affordable, quality education combining a broad-based liberal arts collegiate experience with a firm historical, theoretical, and foundational art curriculum.
At the graduate level, the degree programmes are designed with a dual emphasis on tailoring programmes of study to individual students while fostering shared experience among a community of students.

All first-year student applicants must submit the following items:

File a CSULB application through Cal State Apply by the deadline

Have earned a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA or "B'" grade according to the CSULB GPA scale.

Fulfil CSULB's English Language Requirement

Have completed at least 1 year of high school mathematics. Applicants to STEM majors must have at least 3 years of high school mathematics.

Provide scores for at least 5 subjects completed. In addition, please provide scores for at least 2 "A/AS" subjects completed.
