Program Description

It accomplishes this by building on the core curriculum to provide a broad and rigorous exposure to the fundamentals (e.g., math, science, and principles of engineering) of electrical engineering. EE's other program objectives are multiple.

The Electrical Engineering program at California Institute of Technology - Caltech strives to maintain a balance between classroom lectures and laboratory and design experience, and it emphasizes the problem formulation, system-design, and solving skills that are essential to any engineering discipline.

The program is also intended to develop in each student self-reliance, creativity, teamwork ability, professional ethics, communication skills, and an appreciation of the importance of contemporary issues and lifelong intellectual growth.

General requirements

Regardless of your curriculum, we expect you to take the following classes in high school:

4 years of math, including 1 year of calculus (For students in the IB curriculum, this equates to taking 2 years of Higher Level Math)

1 year of chemistry

1 year of physics, preferably calculus-based, though not required

Four years of high school infers that you have had 12 years of education. As long as you meet our academic requirements within your country's curriculum, we will consider your application.

School Report: This is a document that your high school college counselor will send to Caltech that provides context about your school

Teacher evaluations

Official transcripts from your secondary school (or the international curriculum equivalent)
