Overview

The Chemical Engineering program at the University of Maryland includes a rigorous curriculum incorporating chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics. We teach students how these disciplines are used in careers in energy, smart materials, biotechnology, industrial-scale production, electronics, and nanotechnology. Our technical electives incorporate the latest research and development for real-world application.

Features

Students in our program get hands-on engineering experience in their very first year, starting with Introduction to Engineering Design (ENES 100). This project-based course requires them to work in interdisciplinary teams to design, build and deploy an autonomous hovercraft capable of meeting a set of very challenging specifications.

ChBE offers great opportunities for undergraduate research in our own laboratories and experiences that often make our alumni more desirable to employers and graduate schools. Some of our undergraduates have published papers, contributed to book chapters, and won scholarships and awards for their research.
