During the BA Sports Journalism (Hons) at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), we will equip you with all the skills you need to become a successful sports journalist and teach you how to thrive in the digital age. To be successful, you will need to work hard, but you will learn your practical skills in a fun, newsroom environment.

From day one, you will operate as a journalist. You will be given opportunities to go out and report on sports fixtures, press conferences and sports news events.

Industry Links

Students have worked in the media departments of football clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City during their studies. The course has close ties with Preston North End, with students regularly attending games and press conferences. Currently we have partnerships with Bolton Wanderers and Fleetwood Town, where students go on week-long placements. The course also has close links with various clubs, sports organisations – from all sports, not just football - and employers in the North West.


You will have an opportunity to study abroad. Students on the course have studied in the USA, Spain and China.

Graduates of the course have gone on to work for the BBC, Sky Sports, Eurosport, ESPN, Trinity Mirror, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Surrey County Cricket Club, UK Athletics, The Lawn Tennis Association and many more print, online, broadcast and sports organisations.


The University's sports facilities were recently ranked in a national survey as being the best in any new university and rated as 5 star, the highest possible grade. Journalism and media facilities are also rated as excellent.
