Description

If you are an athlete they can offer opportunities for you to be supported with your aspiration of maintaining your playing career whilst also studying for a high-quality degree.

Their panel will consider applicants as part of the admissions cycle and will offer support to those they feel will make a valuable contribution to their sporting objectives. To be eligible, you must be studying on a full or part-time undergraduate or postgraduate course in the academic year 2025/26; part-time students will be awarded on a pro rata basis. They invite applications from talented individuals who are competing at a high level within their sport, as long as it is a British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) sport BUCS Sports or para sport BUCS Para Sport (i.e. a sport at which universities compete), however, they prioritise scholarships in line with their 6 focal sports – Basketball, Netball, Golf, Rugby League, Table Tennis and Women’s Football.

Eligibility

  • The scholarships are available to UK, EU and International students.
  • The student must be studying on a full-time or part-time undergraduate or postgraduate course at the University, in the academic year 25/26, at either the Preston, Burnley, Westlakes or Myerscough Campuses to be eligible for a sport scholarship.  Students studying on a part-time basis will need to be able to meet BUCS eligibility criteria and will be awarded on a pro rata basis.
  • International students - it should be noted that the university has a limit of £5,500 that can be awarded to International students within an academic year. As such, any international student who is in receipt of any admissions bursaries and/or scholarships, and is subsequently awarded a Sports Scholarship, will have the cash amount of the Sports Scholarship reduced accordingly so as to not exceed £5,500 in total bursaries and scholarships.
  • You must be competing in a recognised British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) sport or para sport (you can check the list of sports using these links – BUCS Sports or BUCS Para Sport) and be willing and able to compete on behalf of the University (i.e. not barred by professional contract to play for the University).

They invite applications from talented individuals who are competing at a high level within their sport, as long as it is a British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) sport BUCS Sports or para sport BUCS Para Sport (i.e. a sport at which universities compete).

All applicants are required to evidence how they meet the following criteria on the application form above – these criteria are primarily UK-based and are indicative of the levels rather than being definitive due to variations by sport and by country. Athletes from different countries may be required to provide specific statistical information and or performance footage to enable us to make a decision. It is not expected that players will necessarily meet all the criteria at any one level.
