Overview

The Marine Science program offered by Florida Gulf Coast University combines aspects of biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, and physics in order to provide a well grounded education in the natural sciences, and it applies a systems approach to identifying and understanding the roles that the oceans play in the functioning of our planet.

Students completing the degree program will also be prepared for further graduate studies in a variety of sciences. Since the Marine Science major employs concepts from many different scientific disciplines, students entering the program should already have had an introductory exposure to geology, biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Students who enter a university in the U.S. must complete 12 years (or equivalent) of preparatory education. International students applying to FGCU as first-time-in-college freshmen must have the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.
All foreign transcripts should be evaluated for equivalency purposes: University-level coursework undertaken abroad may be transferable if earned at a recognized institution depending on academic equivalency.
Florida Gulf Coast University requires that applicants submit official English language proficiency test scores if English is not the native language. Scores must be current (not more than 2 years old). Official test scores must be sent to FGCU.
