Bring your passion for gaming and we’ll help you learn the design and development skills you need for a career in the industry.In the bachelor’s program in Game Design and Development at University at Albany, you’ll gain essential technical skills and foundational game design knowledge as well as a deep understanding of the specialized topics that interest you most by pursuing one of the seven concentrations.

Through our interdisciplinary approach, you’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of the field and graduate prepared to work in gaming entertainment or other disciplines such as government, education or business where demand for games and game-based applications continues to grow.

Program of Study

In this program you’ll study a combination of theory and practical skills, with required courses providing a solid foundation in the key aspects of game design and development. Your chosen concentration will allow you to zoom in on specialized aspects of the field, such as narrative in game design, game programming, simulation and serious games, networking and security, emerging technology and AI in game design.

You also have the option to work with your advisor to design your own concentration, creating a course of study that best suits your interests. Whichever concentration you choose, you’ll participate in hands-on, real-world game development projects, and build a portfolio of work showcasing your abilities to potential future employers.
