Overview

This Dental Hygiene Entry Level program at The University of Texas at San Antonio requires all students to successfully complete a total of 63 program hours in two years upon completion of 60 hours of prerequisites, to include the Texas Core Curriculum, taken at any accredited college or university. Once completed, students will acquire a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Dental Hygiene is a licensed profession requiring successful completion of:

Dental hygiene coursework at an accredited college or university
National Board Dental Hygiene Examination
American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX)

A state Jurisprudence Examination

Program Outcomes

Students will be able to provide clinical assessment and preventive oral health care within the scope of dental hygiene practice to infants, children, adolescents and adults.
Students will be able to provide clinical assessment and preventive oral health care within the scope of dental hygiene practice to the unique needs of women, the elderly and patients with physical, cognitive, emotional or development challenges.
Students will have the ability to assess oral and systemic risk factors related to individual health status and collaborate with other health care providers.
Students are prepared to provide ethically and socially responsible oral health care in compliance with the laws and regulations governing the practice of dental hygiene within the dental clinic workforce, community health clinics, and educational settings.
Students will be able to enhance the oral health of individuals and the community through risk assessment, prevention, promotion of healthy lifestyle and education.

Applications may be obtained from The American Dental Education Association Dental Hygiene Centralized Application System(ADEA DHCAS). A centralized application center is used to process the dental hygiene school application to UT Health San Antonio. To begin the ADEA DHCAS application, the applicant must first apply for a dentpin.
Send official transcripts from every college or university you have attended and mail transcripts to ADEA DHCAS. International applicants must have transcripts from foreign universities evaluated by a professional firm.
Upon completing the application submit $60 to UT Health San Antonio - Dental Hygiene in the form of a check or money order with the same name as you used for the ADEA DHCAS application and include a print out of the first page of your application. This will allow your payment to be matched with the correct applicant.
