Students of the Italian Studies programme from California State University Long Beach are strongly encouraged to study abroad through the CSU International Programme in Florence, Italy or semester-long options in Rome and Venice. In addition, there are programme internship opportunities at Italian and Italian-American institutions in the area.

Key Facts

Once students have met the first- and second-year general language requirements, in the third year they take a common set of core courses in the target language. In the fourth year they choose between the two concentrations: students intending to earn the teaching credential select Italian Language and Culture; students interested in a more interdisciplinary approach select Interdisciplinary Italian Studies. Both tracks share a common core.

All first-year student applicants must submit the following items:

File a CSULB application through Cal State Apply by the deadline

Have earned a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA or "B'" grade according to the CSULB GPA scale.

Fulfil CSULB's English Language Requirement

Have completed at least 1 year of high school mathematics. Applicants to STEM majors must have at least 3 years of high school mathematics.

Provide scores for at least 5 subjects completed. In addition, please provide scores for at least 2 "A/AS" subjects completed.
