The learning experience culminates in a year-long team capstone project (CMSC 447), where student teams partner directly with real-world industry clients to engineer, build, and deploy production-ready software solutions.

Graduates are prepared to transition directly into technical roles across software development firms, defense contractors, intelligence agencies, technology giants, and financial institutions. Common career titles include software engineer, cybersecurity analyst, systems architect, machine learning developer, data engineer, and DevOps specialist. Students pursuing University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) ’s Computer Science - Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning course must complete the Major Requirements, as well as the General Education Programme (GEP) Requirements set up by the University. As part of the Major Requirements, all Computer Science students select a track in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or Game Development.
