Overview
The Theatre Design - Tech programme from University of North Texas prepares students to work professionally in the areas of scenic, lighting, sound, props and costume design, stage management, scenic construction, and other areas of theatre production.
Why Earn a Theatre Design/Tech Degree?
- The Department of Dance & Theatre is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at UNT. The diverse curriculum offers breadth and depth in academics and performance.
- The theatre programme offers a selection of core theatre courses, encompassing various aspects of theatre. After completing the core in each concentration, the student's subsequent coursework is customized.
- The student can continue to study a broad general degree, or to choose to specialize in performance, design/tech, or theatre education.
You'll:
- Gain practical experience in costuming, stagecraft, stage lighting, stage management and theatrical makeup through laboratory work
- Have opportunities to perform lead roles, direct, design and stage manage
- Learn how to use your voice and body during performance
- Learn how to prepare plays for performance
- Study actors, plays and playwrights from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America
- Work with faculty members, guest and student directors, and choreographers on productions

General requirements
- Students with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed admission to UNT. Students' GPAs will be standardized on a 4.0 GPA scale once transcripts are submitted.
- UNT is test-score-optional, however, submitting test scores can help determine admission decisions, testing exemptions and scholarship opportunities.
- An applicant's GED certificate of completion must reflect a minimum score of 165 on each of the four exams. Applicants with scores from 145-164 will be individually reviewed and required to submit additional documents, such as an essay and letters of recommendation.
