Overview

During the four year curriculum the students are trained in a variety of techniques, skills, and tools essential to their area of interest, and given opportunities to connect with professional theatre artists in their field, as well as design and manage the departmental season, Summer Rep productions, and the professional resident theatre company productions.

Key Features

The curriculum is also designed to prepare students who wish to pursue an advanced degree (M.F.A.) in Theatre Design and Technology, for the purpose of entering the fields of Higher Education or Professional Theatre.

The Design and Technology degree at Florida Atlantic University embraces 6 areas of production: technical direction, stage management, scenic, costume and lighting design and technology.

Students majoring in this area have ample opportunities to stage manage, assist in design and are routinely assigned such roles as: master electrician, props master, dresser, scenic artist, stitcher, etc. B.F.A. students work alongside graduate students and a faculty of working professionals.

Opportunities

FAU produces four main stage productions and one Studio 2 production during the school year, and two main stage productions every summer. The Design and Technology students have multiple opportunities to creatively and actively implement the skills they are learning in these productions.

Additionally, the professional resident theatre company Theatre Lab offers a variety of stage management and backstage opportunities for the students in their new work development workshops, their Hecksher Theatre for Families production, and their three Main Stage productions.
