Overview
Art is about experimenting with media, ideas, and experiences to produce new ways of reflecting upon the world around us. Our mission is to support the development of your practice by encouraging critical visual thinking as we help you gain proficiency in technical skills through creative research and process.
Key features
The department places a particular emphasis on the history and context of art and design, weaving contemporary visual culture together with the world around us.
During this Art and Creative Technology program from University of New Haven you’ll develop your critical thinking skills early — in foundation classes that lend themselves to producing work that is both technically proficient and challenges conventional ideas of art. A low student-to-faculty ratio, paired with faculty mentorship, guidance, and independent study opportunities, promote an atmosphere of exploration, communication, and artistic growth.
Learn from accomplished artistsOur faculty is accomplished, exhibiting and in collections both locally and internationally. With a broad expertise that includes drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and 3D animation, each instructor brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the studio.
Draw inspiration from your surroundingsNew Haven offers a great selection of art galleries and museums as well as close proximity to New York and Boston, a context that allows further experiential education opportunities. Here on campus, the department's facilities are geared toward the 21st century, including computer labs and 3D printers, in addition to traditional workspaces for drawing, painting, and sculpture.
