Elementary Education with Teacher Licensure is offered by University of Saint Joseph. In this program, students also choose a content area major in alignment with Connecticut State Department of Education certification requirements.

No matter which content major you choose, USJ teacher educators are well prepared to become leaders in the classroom, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of the profession upon graduation. USJ prepares teachers whose work is grounded in current research, theory, and evidence-based instructional practices to become agents of change across the various careers in education. This is accomplished through close faculty mentorship, rigorous coursework, and high-quality supervised fieldwork in our clinical partnership placements.  Students in the Elementary Education program gain diverse experience through clinical field experiences in partner schools including East Hartford, West Hartford, and Bloomfield, as well as through or university lab schools, the Gengras Center and the School for Young Children. Our students enter the profession with educational expertise, personal, and professional confidence. By pairing a rigorous curriculum with valuable experiential learning opportunities in working with elementary aged children, USJ’s renowned program prepares students for a meaningful and high-impact career. Entering the field as effective educators and advocates for all children, students have the skills necessary to be change agents who embrace the challenge and opportunity of teaching and learning in today’s diverse classrooms.
