Overview
Course Details
Many people today suffer from addictions to a variety of activities and substances and seek treatment from qualified professionals to manage their addictions. Qualified professionals who understand addictive behaviours, such as alcoholism or drug abuse, gambling or shopping to excess, or viewing pornography, are needed to help these individuals explore their behaviours, both external and internal and uncover the causes for these disorders.
During the Human Services - Addictions program at Walden University students will explore how to conduct addictions screenings and assessments. Students will also examine how to use the results to determine the appropriate level of care and to recommend referrals.
This course will teach you to create treatment plans for different types of addiction and treatment settings. As you create treatment plans, you will identify problems based on the assessment results, write treatment goals and objectives, and develop evidence-based treatment interventions
Another subject to explore will be the core functions of case management: assessment, planning, linkage, monitoring, and advocacy. Students will apply what they learn about each function to an authentic case study about a service user who has an alcohol addiction.
