Overview

On the Criminal Justice and Criminology programme at Lycoming College extensive hands-on opportunities, intimate class sizes, and interaction with local and national experts provides students with a deep understanding of criminological theory, research, and practice.

With a healthy emphasis on real-world experience and a strong liberal arts foundation, our students graduate with the critical thinking and leadership skills necessary to succeed in a full range of careers across law enforcement, court services, and corrections.

Student Opportunities

Intern at law enforcement agencies, probation offices, prisons, or residential treatment centers.

Network with potential employers, such as the Pennsylvania State Police, the U.S. Supreme Court Police, and United States Customs and Border Protection Services.

Experience learning outside the classroom by participating in police ride-alongs, observe county court hearings, tour local correctional institutions, or volunteer with agencies.

Work closely with faculty on collaborative and independent research projects and present at national conferences.

Engage with prominent researchers, practitioners, and Lycoming alumni at academic and social events, like our annual Strauser Lecture in Criminal Justice.

Apply for Lycoming’s chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society, and receive recognition for academic achievements.

Careers and opportunities

A criminal justice or criminology major, combined with the liberal arts and sciences education, prepares you for a successful future.

Some of the alumni can be found pursuing their graduate or law degree, while others begin careers with local, state, and federal agencies in policing, corrections, and counseling immediately upon graduation.

Submit Your English Proficiency Exam Scores: Lycoming requires submission of one of the following assessments: TOEFL IBT (minimum score 70); TOEFL PBT (minimum score 525); IELTS (minimum overall band score 6.0); Pearson English Test -PTE Academic (minimum score 50) or Duolingo English Test - DET (minimum score 100), unless you live in an English-speaking country.

Submit Financial Support Documents: International students planning to attend with an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to submit proof of financial support. Students must complete and return the Financial Disclosure Form and an official bank statement (translated into English, if necessary) verifying adequate available funds prior to being considered for admission.
