Students whose interests vary from literature to creative writing or journalism and publishing find the flexibility to choose courses, internships and study abroad programs that match their personal interests and academic and professional goals. Students in the department graduate prepared for pre-professional programs such as the Denver Publishing Institute and have gone on to careers in public relations, teaching, journalism, business and finance as well as writing — from screenwriting and fashion writing to editing and publishing works of various genres. Through close interaction with faculty and numerous engagement opportunities including the student-run newspaper, The Torch; campus journals such as Spectrum and the Wittenberg Review of Literature and Art; The List; and the Student Advisory Group to the English Department, students studying English develop essential literacy, analysis, and communication skills for any career.

General requirements

Certified Secondary and Post-Secondary Records. These records should be certified copies of original official records/transcripts of secondary and post-secondary school work.
Official TOEFL scores of 550 or higher, or TOEFL iBT scores of 79 or higher if your first language is any other than English: You can be exempted from the TOEFL if you score a 600 or higher on the verbal portion of the SAT. We also recognize IELTS scores. To be considered for admission, scores must exceed 6.5.
SAT: combined score of 1050 or higher
ACT: composite of 20 or higher
Two letters of recommendation.
Degree seeking International students must be a minimum age of 17 before they can apply for admission to Wittenberg University. No Student over the age of 22 can apply.
