East Asian Studies is offered by Wittenberg University. Wittenberg's East Asian Studies (EAS) program offers a wide range of courses in Chinese and Japanese language, literature, history, political science, religion, business, psychology, and communication.

Key Facts

Small class sizes allow you to work closely with internationally recognized faculty who will challenge and push you to attain the skills needed to be successful. Beyond classroom instruction, you'll have numerous ways to develop your interest in East Asia. Language study tables, the Anime Club, Martial Arts Club and the Wittenberg University East Asian Studies Journal are important extracurricular components of our program. Many students also study abroad to further develop their foreign language skills and to experience living and learning in an East Asian country. You also will have extraordinary opportunities for internships, mentoring and access to professionals in East-Asian-related careers through collaborative initiatives between EAS and the department of business.

Courses include:

Seminar - 4 credits or Senior Capstone - 2-4 credits

8 credits of language learning above

4 credits each from at least 3 different academic departments

4 credits focusing on Japan

4 credits focusing on China
Attendance at 7 East Asian Studies Colloquia (may be fewer for students who declare as seniors)

General requirements

Certified Secondary and Post-Secondary Records. These records should be certified copies of original official records/transcripts of secondary and post-secondary school work.
Official TOEFL scores of 550 or higher, or TOEFL iBT scores of 79 or higher if your first language is any other than English: You can be exempted from the TOEFL if you score a 600 or higher on the verbal portion of the SAT. We also recognize IELTS scores. To be considered for admission, scores must exceed 6.5.
SAT: combined score of 1050 or higher
ACT: composite of 20 or higher
Two letters of recommendation.
Degree seeking International students must be a minimum age of 17 before they can apply for admission to Wittenberg University. No Student over the age of 22 can apply.
