Black Studies at SVSU examines the full spectrum of the African Diaspora and provides the breadth of study and experience to deepen students’ understanding and knowledge of our local communities and larger world, challenges students to consider their place and responsibility in it, and enhances, strengthens, and expands their critical skills, vision, and confidence to succeed in our world.

General requirements
- Complete the online application. There is a $90 application fee.
- Copy of passport name/photo page (and any dependent(s))
- Evidence of Financial Support (original bank statement signed and stamped by the bank) for one academic year, $34,175 USD
- Unofficial transcripts, translated into English from all institutions attended outside the U.S.
- official international transcripts must be provided after arrival
- official U.S. transcripts must be provided prior to admission
- Request to have official scores on the English language test sent directly to SVSU (if scores are not submitted or are below requirements, conditional admission may be offered)
- Request to have official SAT or ACT scores sent directly to SVSU for additional scholarship consideration. (NOT REQUIRED).
