Key Features

The Sports Medicine program at Marietta College is a pre-athletic training major. This major includes all of the prerequisite classes that students must complete prior to beginning Marietta's Master of Athletic Training Program. These courses include biology, chemistry, physics, communication, psychology, and sports medicine. Unlike most undergraduate programs, Marietta's Sports Medicine majors gain experience studying human anatomy in our human cadaver lab. This program helps students gain the foundational knowledge needed succeed in Marietta's Master of Athletic Training Program.

Students interested in becoming athletic trainers have options at Marietta. Our Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine degree has two different tracks, the 3+2 and the 4+2.

The 3 years of undergraduate study plus 2 years of graduate study (3+2) track allows students to take the major courses and the general education requirements in 3 years, then apply to the Master of Athletic Training Program. Once accepted, credits from the Master of Athletic Training program will be used to complete the remaining credits required for the Bachelor of Science degree. Students completing this track will earn a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine degree as well as a Master of Athletic Training degree at the end of their 5 years of study.

Students wanting to do the 4 years of undergraduate study plus 2 years of graduate study (4+2) track will complete the major courses as well as a secondary concentration and general education requirements in 4 years. Varsity athletes who want to use all 4 years of eligibility will need to choose the 4+2 track.
