Overview
The Secondary Education Major is offered by University of Louisiana at Monroe. Graduates of the program receive content-based teacher certification in Louisiana in grades 6-12.
Key Facts
ULM students are also able to major in secondary subjects outside of Education (e.g. Math & P.E., Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, and Art) and pursue teacher certification in these areas. Many of our graduates have gone on to become principals and educational leaders. Some of our graduates have also been recognized at local, regional, and state levels for excellence in teaching and educational leadership. The School of Education offers advanced degrees in special education, educational leadership, educational technology, English as a second language, and curriculum and instruction.
Programme Structure
Courses include:
- Students in the Secondary Education and Teaching program will complete two Curriculum courses prior to admission into the School of Education Teacher Education Program. CURR 1001, Navigating within a Culturally Pluralistic Society, and CURR 2001, Educational Foundations for Diverse Learning Environments, will provide a solid foundation for teacher candidates to understand the needs of the students they will serve as future educators.
- Once admitted into the Teacher Education Program, secondary students will complete a junior year block of courses for teaching methods, literacy development, classroom management, and differentiation for diverse learners. These courses include embedded field experiences, peer teaching, and signature assessment designed to prepare students for the yearlong residency in the senior year.

- Create an Admissions Account, select and submit the Undergraduate Application, and pay the $20 application fee with a credit or debit card (application fee waived through May 1, 2020.)
- Request that ULM receive your official scores (ACT code for ULM is 1598, SAT code for ULM is 6482) and official high school transcript
- Submit completed Proof of Immunization form
