The purpose of these programs from California State University, Dominguez Hills is to:

Provide an academic program that gives students a solid base in the theory and technology skills required for professional careers in the media industry.
Provide hands-on experience in the basic software and hardware tools utilized in digital media production.
Provide the opportunity for students to work in teams, applying their producing, directing, writing, composing, editing and engineering skills to produce a variety of professional-quality digital media products.
Develop interpersonal skills and professional demeanor that will enable students to work effectively and cooperatively as team players on collaborative projects.

Learning outcomes

The Film and Television Production curriculum is geared for students who wish to have marketable job skills to enter professional careers in the media industry. These career goals include producer, director, writer, composer, editor, lighting director, sound technician, camera operator, studio recording engineer, sound design, audio/video post-production, sound reinforcement, and electronic graphics designer. Data from needs assessment surveys of the media industries indicate that there is a high demand for graduates that possess the hands-on, technical production skills that this curriculum offers.

Students applying to a bachelor’s degree program with no previous coursework at a college or university are considered first–time, first-year (freshmen) university students. The application requirements are different for students coming from a High School in the United States or outside of the country:

International students who have completed only coursework from the United States, or have a combination of international and U.S. coursework, must meet the minimum Admissions Requirements to be considered for admission.

First-time, first-year applicants must have completed the secondary education/high school in their own country or the equivalent in another country. Good academic standing with a “2.5” grade point average (on a scale of A, B, C, D, F) or better for all the courses taken, including Math/Science, at the secondary school is required.
