Our faculty invite students to explore, through close textual analysis, a broad range of historical themes, ideas, and peoples. History faculty work with students to develop students’ research, writing, and oral communication skills, as well as to grow as independent, critical thinkers.

History Major Quick Facts

The History degree requires a total of 52 credit hours with 44 of those specific to the major. Students must also complete the 32 credit-hour university-wide Integrative Core requirement.

The Department of History, part of University of Mount Union , develops and maintains an academic curriculum that helps students attain a broad base of knowledge in history and acquire the intellectual and communication skills necessary to the field.

History Club and national history honor society Phi Alpha Theta are extracurricular activities available on campus.
History majors at Mount Union have pursued challenging internships at museums and local county and state historical societies.
Students who major in history often become school teachers, enter the business world, attend law school, or enroll in graduate school in history or other similar fields.

The history major offers multiple experiential learning opportunities for students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world applications.

Some opportunities include field trips to historical and cultural sites, volunteer work at the Haines House Underground Project in Alliance, and participation in regional and local conferences.
