Overview

You will become a visual educator in the school, the community, and across disciplines. You will teach for nine weeks in an elementary or middle school placement and nine weeks in a secondary placement. The Art and Design Teaching Major, from Edgewood University, is part of a program leading to a Wisconsin initial educator license to teach at the early childhood through adolescence level (Birth-Age 21). In the state of Wisconsin, the certification received upon graduation is for pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

You will immerse yourself in creative art making and acquire skills in the art of teaching. You will take classes in drawing, painting, design, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, photography, video, computer imaging, art history, art methods, student teaching, and education.

Career Outcomes

Your degree in Art and Design Teaching will prepare you to be an art educator. You will become certified to teach classes to grades pre-kindergarten through 12. This major will prepare you for work in a variety of public and private day care, preschool, elementary, and high school programs across the state of Wisconsin.
