Overview
At West Virginia University you’ll have the guidance and support to explore majors, create an academic plan and turn your lifelong passion into a successful career with Undecided or Exploratory degree.
As you consider your options, the Center for Learning, Advising and Student Success (CLASS) will be your academic home for up to two semesters. In CLASS, you’ll be part of the Exploratory Pathway and work one-on-one with a CLASS adviser who specializes in guiding students to the major that best suits them.
How We Help You Find Your Fit:
Your CLASS adviser will help you navigate WVU’s many resources to narrow your academic and career interests and find the major that’s right for you. These resources include:
WVUe 191 — All first-year students are required to take WVUe 191 during their first semester. Your section of WVUe 191, designed especially for Exploratory Pathway students, will focus on major exploration.
Major Match Fair — Each fall, CLASS hosts the Major Match Fair, a one-stop shop for getting information directly from the colleges and schools that offer the major you are considering.
Focus2 — You can take the Focus2 career assessment any time after you’re admitted to WVU. Use Focus2 to explore majors and career paths and determine which career paths might prove rewarding for you. We encourage you to take Focus2 prior to attending New Student Orientation.
Center for Community Engagement — With 250 official community and campus partners, the Center for Community Engagement can connect you to volunteer opportunities related to the majors you are exploring. Through these experiences, you may discover your passion or eliminate careers that aren’t the right fit.
Job Shadowing — Through the University’s many alumni, community and business connections, we can help you find a professional working in the field you’re considering.
