Key Facts and Outcomes

There are two tracks within the Health and Physical Education Program - the Education Track and the Athletic Coaching Education (ACE) Track:

The Education Track is designed to prepare students to become Health and Physical Educators, earning PreK – Adult certification in each area. The program is nationally accredited and the certification courses are approved and recognized by the West Virginia State Department of Education.

The Athletic Coaching Minor provides students with a foundation of fundamental elements of the coaching profession, including rules & regulations, coaching techniques & philosophy, communication, motivation, physical training, planning & management, care & prevention of athletic injuries, first aid, and emergency care. The minor also provides the opportunity to earn a national coaching certification through the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) as well as certification as a West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) Certified Coach – required in order to coach high school or middle school sports in the state of West Virginia.

The program is offered by West Liberty University.

General requirements

Applications should be submitted during the first semester of the senior year in high school along with the high school transcript.

Students from non-English speaking countries must provide evidence of English language proficiency.
Certified Copies of all Official Academic Records must be submitted in the original language of issue as well as the certified English language translation of these academic records.
Applicants who have studied in the United States are required to have the institution(s) in the United States send their official transcripts directly to West Liberty.
All international student applicants, including first-time freshmen and degree seeking transfer students, must have all previously earned credit evaluated in order for West Liberty to award the transfer of credit.
