The Civil Engineering MEng at UCL is a four-year integrated master’s programme that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on, multidisciplinary projects. Syllabus
The curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles, with a focus on practical application. The course is divided into four years, each building on the previous one:
- Year 1: Engineering Challenges, Professional Skills in Civil Engineering, Structural Mechanics, and Engineering Impact Assessment.
- Year 2: Advanced Materials and Applied Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics and Engineering Geology, and Scenarios in Civil Engineering.
- Year 3: Civil Engineering in Practice, Structures and Materials, and a major individual research project.
- Year 4: Integrated Design and optional advanced modules such as Offshore and Coastal Engineering and Advanced Civil Engineering Materials.
Students are encouraged to engage in interdisciplinary projects and can opt for an additional Year in Industry to gain practical experience.
Guaranteed Work Experience
The programme offers opportunities for summer placements within London-based civil engineering firms, allowing students to gain valuable work experience. While securing a placement is the student’s responsibility, UCL provides extensive support, including career guidance and CV writing workshops.
