Key facts

Community, Environment and Planning at the University of Washington is a place to learn about community, in community. Our learning community is formed by time spent together in cohorts, governance, annual retreats, and studying abroad. These experiences provide space for students to learn how to work together in small and large groups and communicate effectively across differences.

Students practice facilitation, deliberation, and conflict management. They learn to actively listen, respect, and challenge one another. While students enter the program with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, they bring with them a shared motivation and sense of purpose. In this way, students come to know that while they are shaping their own academic journeys, they are at their best when learning with and through one another.

You may apply to the UW using one of two applications — ApplyWeb or the Common App.
All freshman applicants will self-report their courses on the application.

Application fee
The UW no longer requires SAT or ACT scores for most applicants. Homeschooled applicants and applicants who come from schools with non-standard grading practices that do not have letter or numeric grades are still required to submit SAT or ACT scores.
Regardless of whether you are applying as a U.S. or international student, if you have attended a school outside of the U.S. that follows a national compulsory curriculum, you are required to upload a scanned, unofficial copy of your transcript for grade levels 9 and higher as part of your application.
