Overview
The Entomology BSc program from Kansas State University students work with and learn from leading-edge scientists in animal health, digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, chemical ecology, molecular biology, stored products, biosecurity and biodiversity. The hands-on training in entomology allows students to explore career options and build experiences that enable them to be highly successful post graduation.
Entomology is the study of insects, but also includes the study of other arthropods, such as spiders, ticks and mites. Insects are the most diverse and abundant macro-organisms on earth and have a great impact on nearly every aspect of our lives.
Given this diversity, entomologists can focus on a wide range of areas, including disease transmission in plants, animals and humans; production and protection of food, feed and fiber; understanding and protecting biodiversity; and emerging fields like biosecurity and digital agriculture.
Career opportunities:
The entomology program is built on two central ideas: providing the training, skills and experiences needed for all students to have a successful career, and allowing students to work with their advisor to build a personalized program of study. Students will learn the basics of Entomology in classes like General Entomology and Insect Sampling and Surveillance.
Entomology careers require an understanding of a wide range of skills, such as bioscience, business, data analysis, leadership, critical thinking and communication. Entomology students at K-State can choose and combine various areas of study to allow flexibility in career goals.
