Overview

Our program is one of Ohio's largest producers of teacher education graduates, and our graduates earn more on average than any other graduates in the state, according to a study by Payscale. Your degree enables you to teach two subject areas – choose from mathematics, social studies, language arts and science – in grades 4 through 9. You can also take courses that lead to the Ohio Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement, permitting you to teach all subjects in grades 4 through grade 6, in addition to your specialized areas in grades 7-9.

Quality classroom experiences

Our faculty share your enthusiasm for teaching and help you build your teaching skills right from the start. Field experiences start as soon as the freshman year and total nearly 1,000 hours in both your content areas and grade band interests by graduation. This also includes a Professional Year (Senior Year) that consists of a placement in the same classroom for the entire school year.

Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree, students in Middle Childhood Education at Bowling Green State University are expected to be able to:

Apply theories of human development and learning to their teaching through the design of lessons and units of instruction.

Plan, implement and assess instructional strategies.

Exhibit professional and ethical behavior when working with students, their parents, other educators and community members.
