Overview

The Engineering Design Technology program at Sam Houston State University focuses on creating drawings and sketches of products. Designers assist engineers in developing product prototypes and models. The coursework focuses on design study to assist in implementation of technology innovation, materials, and aesthetic values. The degree is interdisciplinary with course requirements in marketing, management, production, and quality control analysis. Students in the program will obtain competencies in computer and presentation skills, comprehension of blueprints and product design specifications, problem-solving, and communication.

Program Educational Objective

Provide hands-on experience in the design, prototyping, electronics, safety, and electrical and renewable energy fields.

Be competent in the use of current and major design soft-wares such as Revit, Inventor, AutoCAD, Solid Works, Creo Parametric, and Unity that are most needed in the engineering, architectural, and manufacturing fields.

Be competent in problem-solving skills from the conceptual stage, to prototyping and final implementation of a product.

Understand materials and their behavior in order to design better products with longer life span.

Obtain competencies in problem solving and communication which is much needed in the design and development to enhance and efficient and effective working environment.

The BS in Engineering Design and Technology at Sam Houston State University is designed to provide graduates with the following marketable skills:

Conduct engineering design using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
Fabricate prototypes via various manufacturing processes and equipment.
Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
Work collaboratively in a team environment.
