Corporations, hospitals, and government agencies see the positive effects a wellness program has on their employees and the community, leading to an increase in job demand. In addition, there continues to be a strong demand for performance specialists to train athletes at the youth to elite levels to assist the athletes in reaching the next level.

The main objectives of the human performance and wellness management program are understanding the health/wellness issues that face individuals and the role that corporate and community wellness programs play in addressing these problems; planning, developing, and establishing effective wellness and exercise programs; creating appropriate training protocols for a variety of individuals ranging from recreational athletes to special populations to elite competitive performers; facilitating, teaching, and promoting wellness program content areas; and managing and directing staff, facilities, and budgets of fitness and wellness programs.

The BS in Human Performance and Wellness Management at Sam Houston State University is designed to provide graduates with the following marketable skills:

Fitness assessment, exercise program design, and implementation.
Fitness and wellness entrepreneurship.
Determination of strategies for performance enhancement and the prevention of injuries.
Effective communication with a range of audiences in exercise science settings.
Effective teaching of motor skills in individual and group settings.
